PROJECT SUMMARY

A.Project Background

Randi Child Care Junior Orphanage school is an Orphanage operating under St.Teresa Children’s Foundation is  located in Uganda,  Butebo District, Kabwangasi Sub county, Komolo village about 13 KM from Mbale the biggest town in Eastern Uganda. It was founded by John Peter Akol who is the Chief Executive Officer, with the aid of some community members alongside international friends. The Orphanage was named after Randi Teeples Gerber who worked hard to see that this Orphanage came to exist by giving in some help financially and guidance.

The orphanage was started in the year 2015 by the vision bearer Akol John Peter and 20 and other community members after identifying the many great problems these children face since the 1980s when HIV/AIDS was realized in Uganda. It has claimed lives of millions of people and as a result over 6.5 million children have been left orphaned in Uganda. Emphases lie basically on the Komolo community where this kind of vulnerability and mystery is evidential.

B.Resources, Facilities and Equipment

We started with three semi-permanent buildings, which were partitioned with mats and floored with mud and also an accommodation building or Babies’ Home. The building keeps around 30 kids of which 20 are girls and 10 are boys in different rooms. Then 70 kids come from their guardian’s home due to inadequate accommodation.

The orphanage owns a piece of land, which is approximately 2 acres, which we are buying in installments.

The orphanage owns a clinic, which has four nurses and one clinical Doctor. It offers services such as treating opportunistic infections of the kids and also contributing towards the activities of the kids.

The Orphanage provides children with education, food, scholastic materials, health care, e.t.c.

However, this year of 2018, the number of orphans has raised to 150 children.

C. Challenges.

  • there is shortage of funds to run the activities of the Orphanage like feeding children.

  • limited space/housing to shelter the children.

  • lack of good buildings to the school is also a huge challange since the children learn from semi permanet buildings and under trees.
